La cigale et La fourmi

(This is one of my posts from my first blog, I think it's very apt for the title of this blog..) For those of you who aren't familar with the french language, this story or fable rather is in english known as the cricket and the ant. This was a fable that was told to us when we were young and in school when our connaissance de la vie (the knowledge of life) was very little. I've been learning french at alliance francaise and i have had the best professor, she's an amazing person who has got a lot of knowledge about literature, paintings and culture, and she's also got a very different point of view about things. Rock, Pebbles and Sand - Important Things in Life

A philosophy professor stood before his class with some items on the table in front of him. When the class began, wordlessly he picked up a very large and empty mayonnaise jar and proceeded to fill it with rocks, about 2" in diameter.He then asked the students if the jar was full. They agreed that it was. So the professor then picked up a box of pebbles and poured them into the jar. He shook the jar lightly. The pebbles, of course, rolled into the open areas between the rocks.He then asked the students again if the jar was full. They agreed it was. The professor picked up a box of sand and poured it into the jar. Of course, the sand filled up everything else.He then asked once more if the jar was full.
