Cheeni Kum


I happened to see Cheeni Kum movie recently and i certainly enjoyed it better than Pirates of the Carribean - something something...

It's a sarcastic love story of this 64 yr old arrogant chef/owner of the top Indian restaurant in London (Amitabh) who meets a 30 something visitor from India (Tabu) and then falls into love with her and so on.

Amitabh and Tabu were amazing, crispy dialogues filled with sarcasm and dark humour, it was enjoyable to see their flirtatious romance!

The few elements in the movie that could've been done away with :

- Character of "Sexy" played by a 9 yr old Sweeni, who's character is shown to be that of a young girl plagued with cancer, and who happens to be the chef's best friend and neighbour. She just didn't fit anywhere, there was no need for her character.

- Paresh Rawal, i felt was wasted in the movie, having had to play the role of the gandhian father-in-law who refuses to accept a person elder to him as his son-in-law and goes on a fast to protest! It was too stretched

There were positives as well,

- the movie locations, cinematography, and make-up artisits! Tabu and Amitabh are looking fabulous in the movie. Amitabh is sporting this small ponytail which looks absolutely amazing!

- the script was excellent!

All in all, had this movie been made into a 2 hour or even a 1 1/2 hour movie, it would have been perfect!

I actually didnt like the movie at all. I thought it was a 'wannabe-movie'...it wanted to be daring & different but wasn't.
The 'sexy' girl was absolutely annoying !! Kids like that give children a bad name !!! :))

I too liked the movie...the title song actually took me too the theatre...the character of "sexy" al though took some sheen off the film...but didn't find it as bad...probably by killing the poor soul the diro wanted to show all is not well in real life...

that song is definitely catchy... I loved it too. somehow kept humming it even after the movie got over.

Karthik Calling Karthik

After having been completely enamored and in love with the song "Uff Teri Adaa" I couldn't wait to watch the movie finally. The end emotion being, a decent watch, but could've been much better. The movie begins with a very stereotypical life of a guy (Farhaan) who's just not got anything going for him, from a landlord who's hounding him for money, to a boss who's blaming him for everything that goes wrong, to the hot co-worker (Deepika) who just doesn't know of his existence at all! The change that comes into his life, is a call, at 5 am each day, by a man who claims to be "Karthik" himself who guides him to becoming the man that he is. And voila, suddenly, the real "Karthik" begins to stand up for himself, asserts himself in front of his boss, and manages to strike conversation (a rather witty one) with Deepika too! Reviewing the K-Dramas I binge-watched recently: Chocolate, Doctors, Cinderella and the Four Knights and Romance is a Bonus Book (Part #2)

So like I said in my last post, here are short snippet reviews on the latest K-Dramas I've watched on Netflix: 4) Chocolate - I kept seeing promos/recommendations for this show so I just started watching it one day. The storyline is quite beautiful. It's not a romantic drama even though there's some of it. It's primarily a drama about human relationships and life in general. The two main characters are of a young boy who grows up to be a neurosurgeon (I later watched another show where also the doctors are neurosurgeons, makes me think this is a popular aspirational speciality) while being one of the heirs of a rich family who owns hospital chains, and of a young girl whose life was touched by this boy as a child who grows up to become a chef and their journey is the drama's plot line. This show also focuses a lot of episodes in the context of a hospice. It's shown in a very humane way, but those episodes touched me the most. I was practically crying each time ...
