Well... This movie was one of the most forgettable movies I've seen in the recent past!
To begin with, the movie starts off like 300, with a narration that's supposed to set the pace and the base to the entire story. But they forget to use things like voice modulation, and most importantly a script?! The narrator mumbles something about the creation of the earth by the Gods, and talks about their love for man... and you just don't get the drift. Then you see a woman who places a kid inside a basket (kind of like Moses) into the sea along with a woman in the same basket. A family adopts the kid and he's raised. Cut to 18-20 years hence, the kid's grown, the family of four are sailing, trying to catch fish for their livelihood.
Suddenly you hear the talk of an uprising, and men fighting with the Gods! It's so far-fetched that you just never understand or believe what's happening. So lightning strikes, the family's boat sinks, and as expected, everyone except that boy die.
Then we go on to the journey of this boy as he finds out that he's actually the son of Zeus, and he's the only one on earth with power to defy and fight against the Gods. He then sets out with a team of warriors to fight Hades (brother of Zeus and shunned into the underworld so that Zeus can enjoy the limelight!) Then they battle against giant scorpions, befriend them, ride them, fight with Medusa (the woman who could kill with her sight) and finally fight with Hades' beast to conquer and save the earth and banish Hades into the underworld yet again. Ohh.. did I mention that in this battle he manages to save the princess? And then walks away from her for a heart-to-heart with his father, Zeus, who in the last scene tells him, that you mustn't be alone, after all you're my son, and manages to bring to life a woman he fell in love with!
It's unbelievable (not-in the good sense), and people like me, who weren't so familiar with greek mythology are absolutely clueless! It seems foolish to think of God being just a few men and women like a council of people, and they being challenged by soldiers. The narration is extremely poor, the 3D is pointless because there are no shots worth the 3D effect, acting is average, script is non-existent, costumes and locations are quite good though, cinematography is okay, but not worth remembering... music / background score forgettable. All in all, you're left wondering, why the hell did they make this movie? Couldn't it have been better planned, scripted, storyboarded, and directed? Why did they settle for something so substandard, in spite of having reputed actors on board?!
Please save yourselves the torture and don't watch it! Rent it if you're sadistic and enjoy torturing yourselves just to be able to criticize. :)
