Lagaa Chunari Mein Daag

It's time for another movie review!

Just recently I happened to see this movie with my family, and i wasn't disappointed! :)

While most of the people are cribbing and being very critical about how the movie is so unreal, and ultra-glamourous, I feel it's a decently made movie.

Yes it is glamorous and exaggerated, but then, the film-maker has to make his buck too! :)

The plot was simple, a poor family in dire need of money, having no resources, Rani being the elder sister, decides to take things into her hands, she comes to Bombay in search of a job, but owing to no qualifications per se (has done only her 10th) she is shunned away from everywhere. She does a few odd jobs but nothing that would sustain her. In the process encounters this Boss who offers her a job with a condition that she sleep with him for a night, in hope of a better future, she foregoes her present. An interesting scene, when she calls up her mother to inform her about the horrendous truth that she would have to sleep with a man to get a job, she calls to say that she won't do it, and jaya being distracted, hears only the last bit and asks her to go whatever it takes! :) I know it sounds far too coincidental to be true, but then, since when has Yash Raj ever dished out the truth!

Obviously she doesn't get the job, and she's shattered, when Suchitra Pillai comes in with another perspective, to play their game and beat them to it.

Tada! Rani now becomes Natasha (a pseudonym to disassociate herself) and she becomes an escort (just a better name) for the cream of the society! She's speaks flawless english, sauters around in designer clothes, owns a swanky apartment and of course her parents and sister are flourishing in their suddenly bright lives!

Then it's time for Konkana to come to Bombay for her job with an Ad Agency where you have Kunal K. playing the non-conformist, carefree, Creative Director! and the love blossoms amidst late night deadlines, photo shoots and so on...

Rani meanwhile has encountered Abhishek in a conference at Switzerland where she is posing as the PR Director of some XYZ person, they predictably have a day together and a song sequence enflows.. quite picturesque!

Now, back in Bombay, Konkana discovers Rani's true identity and voila, she isn't ashamed of her sister but instead is ashamed about how she innocently believed that things were that easy, and didn't realise the shadow lurking in her eyes...

Rani is then dragged to Banaras (which is their hometown) to attend Konkana's wedding with Kunal, and her parents confront the truth head-on, now the clincher (though you might have predicted it) Abhishek is Kunal's brother! haha.. well, he knows the truth, and asks for Rani's hand in marriage, and then, all that end's well is well. Rani accepts and everything goes smoothly!

Not different or unique in portrayal but rather in concept, there were some good dialogues, good photography and some hummable tune, though the words comepletely escape me right now! It's definitely a one-time watch, more for the idea, rather than the portrayal, unless of couse you are the types who likes to see extravagance on a roll! :) Well, i think it makes for a good watch once in a while... Reminds me of what my brother-in-law once said, "why should i pay to watch reality when i see it everyday!"

For those of you who'd like to here the flip side! :) here's clickable's version of the story!

So thanks to some prodding from my friend Shri, I decided to go watch this movie today. I'm not upset I did, but I'm certainly not happy. It was sort of like watching Love, Sex aur Dhokha in a way. Graphic, very close to reality, and loud. The movie begins with Anurag Kashyap saying that it's a just a movie and that he doesn't support the use of drugs, drinking and driving and that it's a fictional story which is debatable because like Dev D he used an actual incident as one of the pivotal moments in the movie, in this case the moment is when 5 kids high on coke, drinks, and generally on life, speed across town and in one of the turns end up killing two people who were on a scooter. They were driving a Hummer. Anyways, to come back to the timeline of things, the movie begins by shocking you. I know I've watched a number of movies which involve sequences of kisses in front of my parents / relatives without flinching. But I would not be able to watch this movi

Crash Landing on You - Netflix K-Drama Review

I think all of us remember our first love, we remember what it felt like to have our hearts beat that much faster, the butterflies in our stomach, the obsessing about the words we spoke or didn't speak, and other million details that come along with it. Watching a romantic comedy is supposed to evoke some bit of those memories and just fill you up in this warm, fuzzy feeling that feels like a comforting bear hug (if you like hugs!). A while back I was reading this article about the dearth of good romantic comedies nowadays and it's true, when was the last good romantic comedy you saw? To me the evergreen You've Got Mail, Kate & Leopold, Notting Hill, Sleepless in Seattle are still the classics (yes, I think I crushed on Meg Ryan a lot!). In Hindi movies, I know this divides a lot of people, but I do genuinely think Sonam Kapoor has figured this out. I absolutely loved her Khoobsurat with Fawad Khan. I thought it was funny, contemporary and their chemistry was left me

Karthik Calling Karthik

After having been completely enamored and in love with the song "Uff Teri Adaa" I couldn't wait to watch the movie finally. The end emotion being, a decent watch, but could've been much better. The movie begins with a very stereotypical life of a guy (Farhaan) who's just not got anything going for him, from a landlord who's hounding him for money, to a boss who's blaming him for everything that goes wrong, to the hot co-worker (Deepika) who just doesn't know of his existence at all! The change that comes into his life, is a call, at 5 am each day, by a man who claims to be "Karthik" himself who guides him to becoming the man that he is. And voila, suddenly, the real "Karthik" begins to stand up for himself, asserts himself in front of his boss, and manages to strike conversation (a rather witty one) with Deepika too! Sitting in the audience, you literally feel like whistling and hooting when you see him walk down the corridor of his
