Kolkate returned hobe!

(This post was stuck in my drafts since 2008! Horrifying really. :) I haven't made any edits to the original post)

I haven't attempted to talk about Kobe sizzlers there, it's hobe which is a form of the verb "to be" :)

It's just been the end of a beautiful vacation right in the middle of hectic schedules and bang in the middle of a week!

We left on tuesday evening and were back on saturday morning.. that's what i call a beautiful weekday trip! Breaking the monotony, experiencing a new city, and eating some different food!

Bliss!

We reached calcutta around 8 pm on tuesday and we (my friend and i) took a pre-paid taxi to gariahat bus stop. We just barely managed to cross the HUGE junction circle literally crossing one road at a time much like crossing a hexagon or an octagon! :D We had dinner at this Chinese place, had soup, momo's and the likes.

Then we headed towards the host's home and we sat down to gel with him, his family and his cousins and sisters-in-law.

The next morning we all woke up earliy and starting getting ready for a new day!

We all changed, got ready, dressed up and then we were off... a car ride to the venue and the rain gods decide to bless us. As if it were meant to be, we had rain while we were inside the car, the rain stopped just a couple of 10 mins away from the hall for the wedding. hopefully the way to enter the reception area is not that far! :)

The wedding goes on smoothly, that is followed by a short widai session and then the newly weds are taken home. There they play some games in full view of the family. They seek the blessings of the elders and soon it's time for the newly weds to head to their hotel room (4 star hotel). Accompanying them as their escorts were we, and we then went ahead to eat tarka roti at midnight! :)

back home we went off to sleep in a jiffy i think!

later next day, we rise up and head to a friend's place, stone's throw away to just chill... little did we know that just chilling was going to take until 4 pm! :) a great drive, some watery pasta! some shopping and we're back to getting dressed up for the reception!

we head to the reception, meet people, socialize, behave ladylike and un-ladylike! :D

the night is young and then after a change of clothes, we're off clubbing.. and clubbing we did! little did we know that such few clubs would be open at this time. some were blocked for a party, some were shut and finally we found one open, by the name venom! :)

we begin dancing, and boy did we have a good time! danced to our hearts delight... and lazying around.. and soon it was time to leave... we head home and put our weary selves to sleep...

next day there's more lazy getting up and getting ready. we then head to a restaurant for lunch. then comes the exciting part!

i finally travel in a metro!!! (my first ride in one) and they're super fast. Also each station has these artistic cultural mosaics on their walls which adds to the charm of the city. So, from park street (no there is no park avenue) to kalighat we head in a metro. Then from kalighat we search for a tram. We run on the roads behind a tram and finally catch one that was heading towards the depot. After explaining to the conductors that all we want to do is sit in a tram, he agrees to allow us to sit in it. We head to the depot, and then we head closer to our destination in a different mode of transport!

The tram is more like a heritage structure in Calcutta now, it's' routes have been cut down by 80% almost. It's far more economical than buses (considering it works on electricity) but it's much slower. What's funny is that the tram actually slowed down cause there was a crow on the tracks! :) really hilarious!

We then get off the tram and head towards the hath-rickshaws. Since they can't be used for long distances, we just take a small round in them and regale in the ride. The young man who was pulling us seemed at ease to pull us on the roads. The pressure must reduce with the momentum that is carried...

After the hath-rickshaw ride we then head home in a big yellow taxi... :)

Later in the evening we step out again. We headed for some pucchkas but ended up eating thuppas! :) Thuppa is the tibetian version of a full-bodied soup + meal. Boiled vegetables, shredded chicken, noodles, spices and broth make this thuppa a wonderful meal. Some spicy chicken momos and roast pork were ordered too!

Post the heavy meal we get into the car and head home...

We didn't do much more after going back. Just sitting with the whole family and laughing at some quirks and other anecdotes... It was almost 2.30 am when I finally decided to call it a day. Slept for about an hour and half and then we were ready to leave for the airport.

We reach the airport and in a rush-rush manner board the plane... Slept through most of the journey back home...

Opened my eyes during the last bit and realized that we were thick amidst the clouds and the cloud's moisture was condensing on the window.. streaks of water on the window, i can never forget that sight... :)

we moved into bombay through navi mumbai and i could make the bridges, the buildings and the cars moving as though it were a miniature model...

so many sights to capture, so many memories, i've just relived them all and it feels great!

So thanks to some prodding from my friend Shri, I decided to go watch this movie today. I'm not upset I did, but I'm certainly not happy. It was sort of like watching Love, Sex aur Dhokha in a way. Graphic, very close to reality, and loud. The movie begins with Anurag Kashyap saying that it's a just a movie and that he doesn't support the use of drugs, drinking and driving and that it's a fictional story which is debatable because like Dev D he used an actual incident as one of the pivotal moments in the movie, in this case the moment is when 5 kids high on coke, drinks, and generally on life, speed across town and in one of the turns end up killing two people who were on a scooter. They were driving a Hummer. Anyways, to come back to the timeline of things, the movie begins by shocking you. I know I've watched a number of movies which involve sequences of kisses in front of my parents / relatives without flinching. But I would not be able to watch this movi

Crash Landing on You - Netflix K-Drama Review

I think all of us remember our first love, we remember what it felt like to have our hearts beat that much faster, the butterflies in our stomach, the obsessing about the words we spoke or didn't speak, and other million details that come along with it. Watching a romantic comedy is supposed to evoke some bit of those memories and just fill you up in this warm, fuzzy feeling that feels like a comforting bear hug (if you like hugs!). A while back I was reading this article about the dearth of good romantic comedies nowadays and it's true, when was the last good romantic comedy you saw? To me the evergreen You've Got Mail, Kate & Leopold, Notting Hill, Sleepless in Seattle are still the classics (yes, I think I crushed on Meg Ryan a lot!). In Hindi movies, I know this divides a lot of people, but I do genuinely think Sonam Kapoor has figured this out. I absolutely loved her Khoobsurat with Fawad Khan. I thought it was funny, contemporary and their chemistry was left me

Karthik Calling Karthik

After having been completely enamored and in love with the song "Uff Teri Adaa" I couldn't wait to watch the movie finally. The end emotion being, a decent watch, but could've been much better. The movie begins with a very stereotypical life of a guy (Farhaan) who's just not got anything going for him, from a landlord who's hounding him for money, to a boss who's blaming him for everything that goes wrong, to the hot co-worker (Deepika) who just doesn't know of his existence at all! The change that comes into his life, is a call, at 5 am each day, by a man who claims to be "Karthik" himself who guides him to becoming the man that he is. And voila, suddenly, the real "Karthik" begins to stand up for himself, asserts himself in front of his boss, and manages to strike conversation (a rather witty one) with Deepika too! Sitting in the audience, you literally feel like whistling and hooting when you see him walk down the corridor of his
